Technology Enhanced Learning in Actuarial Science

The Project

In this site, you will find resources that will enhance your ability to learn the basic actuarial curriculum. Our focus is to provide web-based tools to help budding actuaries solve actuarial examination questions. These tools are not intended as a substitute for lecture or other traditional means of learning complex material; rather, these tools should “enhance the learning experience.”

In this site, you will find a series of video clips done by students. Each video captures a student explaining the solution of a past actuarial problem. Through these videos, we harness a student’s ability to explain a problem to other students. You can think about this site as providing you with an “electronic teaching assistant” – a teaching assistant that is available on a 24/7 basis (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)!

Our learning tools are based on the official "sample questions and solutions" from 2011 by the sponsoring actuarial organizations, the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries. The questions and solutions are reproduced here with permission.

This project is organized by the Wisconsin School of Business Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance Department, a Center of Actuarial Excellence, through a three-year grant from the Society of Actuaries (SOA).

To begin, click on the sidebar for the type of exam problems that you would like to see. Sometimes, you'll need to click on the button "Login as Guest" (sorry).
Warning! While navigating the website and accessing the materials, be aware that you should not expect to be able to use:
• "Site Actions"
• "List tools"
• "Search this site"
• Navigation folder

Did we mention that this site is free? To show our funding sources that our efforts are reaching beyond the Wisconsin borders, it would be helpful if you could write us at TELFeedback@bus.wisc.edu. Tell us your home state/province/country. Of course, any suggestions that you have to improve our work would also be much appreciated!
